School Years
As the individual moves through developmental changes, like other individuals (although these changes may be delayed) some common characteristics in school aged children can be observed. These include depression, generalized anxiety, obsessive-compulsive disorders, and regression with decline in cognitive and social skills and chronic sleep difficulties.
Students with Down’s syndrome often achieved success when they are included in mainstream schools. Generally they easily make friends and bond with others. A love for learning will still be evident. Their reading ability is often a strength and should be used to provide the student with success.
